Event Description:
This January, the KC Tech Council, in partnership with Code.org, will host business and education leaders from across the state of Missouri to advocate for something that impacts all of us – computer science education reform.

In order for the state of Missouri to remain competitive, we need your help educating lawmakers about the need for computer science education reform and how it would affect your business long-term. 

Agenda
For those traveling with the KC Tech Council:

8:00 a.m. | Attendees meet at Cerner Innovations Campus
8:15 a.m. | Bus departs Cerner
​All Attendees:
11:15 a.m. | Arrive at Madison's Cafe
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | Luncheon program with remarks from MO Legislators, Code.org officials, Polsinelli, KC Tech Council and others
1:30 p.m | Split into small groups, walk to Capitol and offices for meetings
2:00 p.m - 4:30 p.m. | Meet with MO Legislators
5:00 p.m. | Depart Jefferson City

Relevant CS Ed Legislation:

HB 1623 - Pre-filed by Rep. Fitzwater.
Requires DESE to establish K-12 CS standards, a teacher certification, would allow students to substitute CS for a graduation requirement, and establishes a funding mechanism for teacher professional development in CS. 

SB 571 - Pre-filed by Sen. Ryan Silvey
Allows a student to fulfill one unit of academic credit with a district-approved computer science course for any math or science unit required for high school graduation.

HB 1457 - Pre-filed by Rep. Lauer
Would require all high schools to offer computer programing.
